Why We Need a Jewish Democratic Coalition of the Bay Area (JDCBA)

Now more than ever we need a Jewish Democratic Coalition of the Bay Area. We are united in our fight against antisemitism and related attacks and disinformation. We are a Jewish voice in support of Israel and are actively engaged in Jewish advocacy within the local Democratic Party.

In just a short time, we have developed a solid base of Jewish members in Bay Area Counties. Please grow with us and join in our vision and goal to reflect Jewish values in our Democratic Party.

 JDCBA's Purpose

  • To foster democratic ideas by stimulating active interest in the Democratic Party, to support the party platform, contribute to party leadership and responsibility, to provide a constructive role for volunteers in Democratic politics, and to promote an activist base
  • To advocate for the values of the Jewish community including Tikkun Olam, social equality, justice, and the defense of a democratic, inclusive, secure Israel within the Democratic Party and its constituent parts
  • To advocate for the election and support of the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates to the Jewish and Pro-Israel community. JDCBA supports a two-state solution that allows Palestinian citizens to exercise self-determination within their borders and Israeli citizens to exercise self-determination within their borders.

IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism

In 2016, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which includes the United States, formally adopted the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism (“the IHRA Definition”). The IHRA Definition, initially published by a European Union agency in 2005, has been used by the U.S. State Department since 2010 and is sometimes referred to as the State Department’s Working Definition of Antisemitism.

On 26 May 2016, the Plenary in Bucharest decided to: [Courtesy of IHRA]

Adopt the following non-legally binding working definition of antisemitism:

“Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”
